Alumni Spotlight: Jefferson Scholar Mackenzie Williams

St. Thomas School alumna Mackenzie Williams may be a born communicator, but it is her innate competitive nature that has carried her to a major apex in her young life.

This past June, Williams graduated from Sammamish's Skyline High School with an International Baccalaureate diploma, and was awarded one of 36 prestigious Jefferson Scholarships. As a recipient, Williams earned a full ride to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, a dream school of hers since visiting the East Coast as a young girl.

The prestigious Jefferson Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who best exemplify the Jeffersonian ideals of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship, and covers the entire cost of their education at the University of Virginia. Given solely on the basis of merit, Jefferson Scholarships are granted to candidates who have undergone a rigorous selection process after first being nominated by their school, with nominations pouring in from all corners of the country and globe. According to Mackenzie,a record high of 2,005 students were nominated in 2017 and only 36 scholarships were awarded. Continue reading...
