The Timeless Role of a Mother

Today I am celebrating a very special milestone—my mom’s 95th birthday. Even from afar, I find myself reflecting on the immense and timeless impact mothers have on our lives. No matter how old we get, there is something about the steady presence of a mother that shapes us, sustains us, and continues to teach us long after we’ve grown.

My mom has always been the cornerstone of our family. She was ‘that mom’ at school—the one volunteering for everything, organizing classroom parties, making sure we had everything we needed for camp or after-school activities. She was always there, a quiet but strong force, ready with the right form, the right supplies, and most importantly, the right lesson in life: follow-through, be kind, put family first, and always care for others.

Even now, as she approaches her 95th birthday, she hasn’t lost that spark. She’s still perceptive, able to read a situation with a knowing glance, and offer wisdom at just the right moment. It’s a beautiful reminder that a mother’s role doesn’t diminish with age—it only deepens.

As I work with so many families in my role at the school, I see how overwhelming motherhood can sometimes feel. The endless to-do lists, the juggling of schedules, the desire to be everything for your child—it can easily lead to stress and exhaustion. In those tough moments, I encourage you to take a deep breath and remember that it’s okay not to be perfect. Give yourself grace. It’s not about doing everything all the time; it’s about being present, showing love, and caring for your children in ways big and small. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is simply be there, and trust that your presence, your efforts—however imperfect they may feel—are enough.

The little things you do—helping with the morning routines, showing up for the school events, offering that word of encouragement—these are the building blocks of your child’s world. And long after they grow up, they’ll still turn to you for guidance, love, and support, just as I do with my mom.

So today, I want to remind all the incredible mothers out there: your job is hard, but it’s also the best job in the world. The influence you have is immeasurable, and the love you pour into your family truly lasts a lifetime. I’m living proof of that. My mom’s care, wisdom, and love have shaped who I am, and even at 95, she continues to inspire me.

Here’s to all the mothers—thank you for all you do, today and always.
