Monday Chess Club for Beginning Players
Welcome to our St. Thomas School Chess Club featuring enjoyable chess play and practice with Coach and Chess Master Dr. Leo Stefurak.
Our Monday Chess Club encourages very beginning and beginning students to work and play together while learning fundamental chess plans and ideas via the immediate feedback and communication present in chess fun and games. Beginning students will learn effective decision-making methods while seeing and experiencing the logical and practical consequences of their fun and friendly game play.
Chess Club offers the applied benefits of directed attention and organized thinking obtained through friendly chess play and active learning. Chess is digital, algorithmic, inductive, and empirical. Chess play is pro-education, pro-social and pro-family. All of our beginning chess students learn powerful uses
of the head, the hand, and the heart in chess club.
Beginning students will be shown how to play well with others in cooperative chess games while informing and expanding their creative imaginations. Beginning students will enjoy chess play and learning in the Monday Chess Club while making and playing with their new friends.
New and beginning chess players with a desire to learn chess ideas and develop their play are encouraged to join the Monday Chess Club. All Chess Club students will develop exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills through chess play and practice.
Coach Leo looks forward to meeting you and to introducing new students and parents to fun and engaging chess play and enjoyment in Chess Club.
