Come experience the best of both worlds with Mrs. D from Studio 2 You! This full day camp is filled with so much hands on fun. The morning part of the camp will all things art. Students will learn the a variety of art techniques while creating unique, functional art pieces. From woodworking, yarn, painting and ceramic making. In the afternoons we switch over to the kitchen and cook up a storm! Campers will understand kitchen safety, methods of cooking and more that will build their confidence being your little sous chef! Local, natural and organic products are used where we can.

Many of the most popular video games today require big teams of highly specialized professionals, but at its root, good game design comes down to some simple principles that can be learned at any age. These fundamental lessons can also lead to a better understanding of coding, mathematics, systems design, and more.

This Explorers Program workshop introduces young students to these early game design principles through some fun, real-life activities, and games. Instructors will use Minecraft to introduce game design concepts used every day by professionals in the industry. Instructors will also guide the students in the use of Microsoft’s MakeCode Arcade development platform to help them develop their very own games, from the ground up.

By the end of the workshop, students will be able to design their own retro-style video game and take it home with them on a unique handheld game console.

Projects in this workshop may include designing and building a dungeon for an adventure game and designing a platform adventure game in real life using chalk.

Come get messy with clay. Studio 2 you will encourage campers to let out their inner artist as they learn to work with clay applying a variety of techniques while using trade tools. We will apply different glazes and design concepts for each piece that is made. Campers will design and build their own custom mosaic as well as create a one-of-a-kind paint-your-own ceramic piece.

The design and development of autonomous vehicles like self-driving cars incorporates elements of engineering, artificial intelligence, industrial design, and much more. For students looking to enter a fascinating, hands-on field with plenty of avenues for specialization, autonomous vehicles offer many opportunities.

This workshop for Adventurers takes an expanded look into different ways vehicles can be made autonomous. Instructors will demonstrate the various hardware and software that must work in concert to create reliable, self-driving systems.

By the end of the week, each Adventurer will be able to create an electronic autonomous vehicle that they can play with (and improve) at home.

Projects in this workshop may include: Creating a model car that can follow a line or programming a vehicle that can detect a “cliff."

Chess has many variants and varieties to its play. Students this week will be practicing Lightning Chess, Blitz Chess, and Bughouse Team Chess. Sporting skills are supported and enhanced by exercising physical and mental muscles in addition to those most commonly used in the performance of the sport per se. Marathon runners, for instance, lift weights and do pull ups in addition to running long distances in training. Similarly, chess players benefit by exercising their visualization and variation-building skills through chess-like mental play and exercises. Students will be developing tactical and strategical skills through chess cross-training in Give-Away Chess, Monster Chess, Whack-A Move Chess, and other fun chess variants including exciting Bughouse Team Chess! Cross-Training in Chess offers the applied benefits of directed attention and organized thinking through chess camp play and active learning alongside friendly and helpful chess campers.

Cool Contraptions: Does your child love to tinker and create new things, or are they the kind of learner who likes to break things apart to see what’s inside? If so, they’re going to love Snapology’s Foundational Engineering: Machines and Contraptions program! This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement and the importance of simple machines. They will see these moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines and contraptions, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates! This introductory workshop for Explorers shows young students the techniques that bring what they see in their mind into the real world through their art and sculptures. Instructors will guide students through the basics of drawing, painting, and sculpting, leading into a better understanding of how to bring their creations to life, from start to finish.

Technology apprentices will get to experience the behind-the-scenes magic that happens every summer to prepare over 300 computers for the new school year. Help to unbox all the new computers, install Windows 11, service and prepare equipment for the new school year, and configure and test the latest software and gadgets. Note that this camp is only for current and former STS students.

Disclaimer: The summer apprentice program provides on-the-job training for computer care and maintenance. Students who participate in the apprentice program will be required to work in small groups to complete activities which include cleaning and repairing computers, checking devices for software and errors, testing new programs and settings, and working to deadlines. While the apprentice program has no formal teaching component, students will be involved in teamwork and become very familiar with the school's technology and how to troubleshoot tech problems.
