This Adventurers workshop gives students a practical approach to core programming principles. Instructors will teach students to work within the Visual Studio Code integrated development environment, guiding them through the ins and outs of the Python programming language. Few things are more special than the moment a child learns to express themselves through music. Even before they have the specific language to express themselves in words, young musicians can take up the medium of melody to communicate with others and leave their mark on the world. This Explorers Program workshop introduces young students to these early music principles through fun, real-life activities and games. Young learners in this workshop will learn how to make sound and music using everyday items and their own voices. Instructors will also use Microsoft MakeCode to reinforce music concepts used every day by professionals in the industry. By the end of the week, each Explorer will be able to write, play, and code their own interesting melodies, rhythms, and songs.

Themed workshops: Each morning, students will get to experience our popular workshops. From Archeology to designing a city, exploring oceans and African Savannas, students will learn how the scientific method relates to all areas of life. They’ll be learning about the world around them as they have a blast working together and writing stories, designing ecosystems, building models, and much more. Brick Art and Design Lab: Edgar Degas, a famous artist, once said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” As your child learns about different types of art and the periods in which they were created, students will also be interpreting what they see and creating their own works of art out of LEGO bricks. In Snapology’s Brick Art and Design Lab class, children will draw inspiration and guidance from great works of art like Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” Wright’s “Falling Water,” and so many more! This fun week of immersion in the digital game of chess is a great way for students to learn decision making procedures while enjoying the use of their minds and imaginations. Chess play and practice help young minds to develop exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills. All intermediate and advanced intermediate level students are welcome to enjoy chess play with new and old friends during this fun and engaging camp week. Students with some previous chess experience are encouraged to enroll. Tactical skills and middle-game strategies will be emphasized as students build upon opening knowledge and individual styles. A friendly training tournament will be conducted each afternoon enabling students to join theory with active practice.

Roblox is a game-creation platform that has introduced millions of people to game design and programming with its own immersive in-game engine. Dedicated fans and hobbyists are continually developing new games for the community to enjoy. Adventurers in the Developing Games in Roblox workshop will begin with the principles that apply to all good game design and development, then eventually learn to use the full game-creation tools available in Roblox Studio. Instructors will introduce students to some of the game modes others have developed to better understand what works for different types of games. At the end of the workshop, students will be able to come up with and develop their own games in Roblox to share and play with their friends.

For young learners, expressing themselves through art can be a crucial stage in their development, and the artwork they create at this age often become cherished keepsakes. While they may have plenty of time to practice and improve their craft, it’s never too early to pick up some of the tried-and-true principles of animation and sculpting. This introductory workshop for Explorers shows young students the techniques that bring what they see in their mind into the real world through their art and sculptures. Instructors will guide students through the basics of drawing, painting, and sculpting, leading to a better understanding of how to bring their creations to life, from start to finish. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to apply their new understanding of design fundamentals to bring all their future artwork to life.
